“The furniture should be sourced within a 500 mile radius from the delivery location.”
We understand what this organisation is trying to achieve. But what a clumsy way of formulating this requirement.
Firstly, the delivery was to be executed to multiple locations. How should you go about calculating the radius? If you would do it from each location separately, this might lead to different locations getting different furniture.
Secondly, ‘sourced’? Sourcing is something the issuer of this tender is doing. So it is basically a requirement to themselves.
Another issue with this wording is its definition. We come across the term ‘produced’ often, and even that, more clear term, gives rise to many, many questions.
In other words, sloppy work, aimed at avoiding work but causing the opposite.
